My preliminary assessment of your upgraded Classic Lenco (sadly without new platter mat or large brass footers) compared to the old Classic is done. As always, you weren’t exaggerating.
First listening to Clapton’s Unplugged, the PRaT stuff is even better. The speed stability of your Lencos is superb, and the enhanced Classic seems to be less homogenized while delivering an even lower noise floor. I heard the background singers with much more clarity, and could better distinguish between them. There was more depth to the instruments’ sound, which suggests to me that more harmonics were now above the audibility threshold.
The enhanced low-level information and organization extended through the entire frequency spectrum and not just the mid range. Using full range drivers that start to roll off at 15KHz, the enhanced highs are much appreciated.
To confirm the enhancements to the bass, I threw on an old high school Def Leppard album, High & Dry. The improvement to the rhythm was substantial. I went from listening to “drums” to listening to a drum kit – the detail and the organization were that good. Likewise the electric bass guitar; I was hearing organized bass rhythms, riffs, and notes with that clarity that previously just wasn’t there.
Same with Brubeck’s Time Out. More clarity, detail, rhythm, instrument body, and organization across the spectrum.
I look forward to getting the last two enhancements done to the Classic Lenco (mat and footers), and to one day getting my own Reference Lenco.
